Walk cycle 3/4

Another simple walk cycle, this time seen 3/4 view, the character is just drawn in Flash, may have been influneced by this neighbor kid next door, a bit of a bully, anyway, if you think is something you can use in your animation, please download the .fla

enjoy! :)

Walkcycle

Here's a basic walkcycle, I thought some of you have a character walking and this is a good start to tweak it for your own animation, please download my .fla

The left arm has a texture, a piece of clothing grabbed from a texture library, that is then masked inside the symbol, in this way you can also create your body parts, just an idea..;)

If you want to move your character across, say from left to right, you can select all the frames and then right click on the highlighted frames and 'copy frames', then make a new symbbol, f8, and then 'paste frames', after that you can drag your symbol on the stage and animate it...

Also for the people working in after effects is possible to animate your character in Flash and then import the .swf into your AE project for the rest of the animation...

storyboard benine part 5

-lift doors sliding open;
-background 'factory' appears;
-->alarms still going and the clock is still freaking out, the big tandrad is strubbeling.

-the workman Josaphat is walking in, half naked;
-he fixes the tandrad;
-->alarm stops.

-Josaphat turns to Boss, when he is being aware of his presence, he lines up;
--> all the time Boss watches Josaphat in silence.

-Boss walks to Josaphat and tries to recover himself;
-he wants to ask what went wrong and why and to tell it will not happen again. But he stutters and stutters;
-->head of Boss gettng more red;
-->expression of Josaphat is getting surprised and not understanding;
-->Boss dreams away, drowns in the crush!

...........................................end of the introduction and encounter...........................................
The idea was to focus first on this part of the story. When I am satisfied with the result and there is time left, I will (off course) make also the rest of the story! Do you agree?!

storyboard benine part 4

-Antoinette asks her husband what he things about her new beautiful acquisitions;
-Boss seems absent and
watch indifferently;
-Antoinette start to nag and whine: Boss doesn't spend that much attention to her, ect);
-->she is angry and jumps.

-then a big movement, shock and the workmen's clock starts to freaking out.
-->Boss surprised and Antoinette scared.

-Boss says he has to fix it, as a president of the under workmen's world;
-he is goiing to the lift.

-zoom out, world and city background appears again;
-underworld slide in and is a invert of the upper rich world;
-->you see a dot (the lift) moving from above to down.

-when the lift is nearly down the background turns upside down
-zoom in on lift

storyboard benine part 3

-after introducing Boss, the door swings open and Antoinette (wife of Boss) appear with a lot of shopping bags;
-she is exhausted (legs bent and back leaning forward);
-she drops her bags dramatically, when she take her place in front of Boss;
-Boss walks just a little to her;
-Boss gives her a gentle hand kiss, cuddle;
-Antoinette shut her eyes and cheeks glowing.

storyboard benine part 2

-zoom in from Seagram window into the office of Boss (see drawing part 3, under middle an under right) smoking his pipe, looking arrogant, relaxed and doing nothing.

-->this is his office: shiny big wooden table, big wooden door (lift), a frame of natural stone and two big clocks. One black and simple: the clock of the workmen (one hand for the 18 hours of work in a day) and a white clock for the upper rich world.
-->parts of my character and their background will be in textures of fabrics.

storyboard benine part 1

The first three (start above left, above middle and above right) I will not use. I have to much the feeling of "Eliot Kid". In my intro scene:

-the earth will appear from under;
-the city slides in from right, she jumps back and fore;
-lights behind windows glow up.
-->colors I use are black, white and dark grey/blue;
-->window will be different colors.

-sun slides in from left and city turns into color;
-car driving in and out.
-->car has a texture of fabric

-zoom in on building, building is the Seagram Building of Mies van der Rohe.

background settings for Blade Runner

Here are the architectural/urban settings which I'll be using for the shots.. and a preview/test for some facial expressions of handyman Becker!
this is the first part of my story, made in flash
the next scene's will come
Hi, this is my Storyboard for the new story of the Da Vinci Code.

Story summary

De curator maakt rechtsomkeer en rent snel weg. Maar de donkere gestalten met kappen en rode boze ogen zetten de achtervolging in. Door elke gang waar de man rent, glijden de schaduwen/monniken in de schilderijen mee. De curator rent voor zijn leven, hij ziet maar een uigang voor zijn vlucht, het kapel! Eindelijk hier aangekomen, kijkt hij alsof zijn laatst uur is geslagen;
Hij zit nu zelf vast in een schilderij.
AAAH!!!
(schaduwen : monniken met lange kapen)

Mobster Kane Intro scene/background

Hey, Here is an image of the introscene, which also shows the background uses in the other scenes as well.

Free texture libraries to spice up your drawings!

Here is a short but comprehensive list of texture libraries that you can use to lay under your line drawings to give it a more tactile feel, (Gwen's futuristic bg image is a good example ) but you can also use textures for your characters and props...:)

Photoshop brushes

When you scan your line drawings and prepare each element, background, body elements, etc, you will most likely have to 'clean' your drawings, that is separate elements, arms, legs, face, etc in different layers. It is then useful to use brushes in photoshop to 'retouch' your line drawing. Here is a selection of brushes, sprays, and pencil brushes that can help you replicate the feeling of a 'real' pencil'. In particular the 'Nagel' series included does a good job of making pencil marks...:) you can download them here.

Flash animation sample

Some of you have asked me to upload a character animation I showed last week in class, here is the .fla which you can download and study. This is just to give some ideas on how to organise your assets in Flash and prepare the animation.

Please keep in mind that this is only one way, ( and probably not the easiest), to approach your character animation, but it can give you a jump start in getting started. All the elements, face, eyes, etc, were drawn in Illustrator and then imported in Flash, Ctrl-Cmnd r.

If you prepare your visuals in Photoshop you have to save each element as .png format with transparent background, then import it in Flash.

Any questions, post them here!

The size of your animation

Important:
The size of your animation needs to be 1050 wide x 576 high. This is the wide screen format,(sexy!), in After Effects you will find it if you make a new composition and choose under the presets menu PAL D1/DV Widescreen Square Pixel.
In Flash you just need to chnage the stage size in the properties panel.

Any questions, just post them here...:)

Lego Rocks!

Who needs 3d when you can do it with a box of lego and stop motion animation??

preview architectural sketches

preview of the architectural setting for my interior shots..

the orange background will get a detailed futuristic city with flying rockets!

Gorillaz fan

Thank you all for showing your work yesterday, is getting exciting!, i will post more tips and comments later about the planning, in the meantime this Gorillaz fan video is interesting for our project because it combines hand drawn lines, photoshop color retouches to the characters, and a simple use of architecture backgrounds to make the animation less static....even if you don't like the music, the way the animation is set up, drawings in photoshop then imported in after effects with few animated elements and masks, the result is quiet charming and effective..:)

Been thinking a lot about how you all can take your storyboard to the next level...I know we're all very busy and can't wait for the Christmas holidays but before we slip into our slippers and pijamas if you put in the efforts now you will be rewarded at the end, and your product will be radiating light into the faces of unsuspecting possible employers...;)

This is a selection of tutorials of After Effects = think Photoshop but with motion, and Flash = turbo animation tool, from the very helpful computerarts.co.uk site, please take your cup of coffee and sit down to do some of these tutorials, all cover essential aspects of producing your animation, download the files and just follow the instructions, you'll be amazed how quickly you can get your animated project up and running. These are meant to get you going with these software programs, if you want to take another approach, we can discuss it in class next wednesday....

ANIMATE YOUR CHARACTERS IN AFTER EFFECTS: download files here
CREATE AN ANIMATIC IN AFTER EFFECTS: download files here
ANIMATE SCENERY IN AFTER EFFECTS:download files here
MAKE LIP SYNCHING EASY IN FLASH: download files here
